Abstract
The results of tribological tests at 20°C and 250°C of 35KHM steel in the initial state and after complex surface modification: nitriding and vacuum-arc TiN, CrN and Mo2N coatings deposition, are presented. Nitriding only slightly changes the tribological characteristics at 20°C, but at 250°C it contributes to an increase in the specific wear rate (W = 2×10–4 mm3/(N×m)). The TiN coating causes its decrease (W = 2×10–5 mm3/(N×m)), but it is characterized by a high and unstable friction coefficient at both test temperatures (µ = 0.75…1.06). The CrN coating demonstrates satisfactory tribological properties, especially at 20°C in a friction pair with a TiN-coated ball (μ = 0.38 and W = 1×10–7 mm3/(N×m)). The best results are demonstrated by the Mo2N coating in a pair with a TiN coating, which provides low stable friction coefficients (0.38–0.54) and a minimum specific wear rate (W = 1×10–7 mm3/(N×m)) regardless of the test temperature.
