Abstract

The micromechanical and microtribological characteristics of the Ti–6Al–3Mo alloy surface obtained by milling, wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) at different technological parameters and finishing chemical polishing were evaluated. After WEDM, a structure, prone to brittle fracture, is formed in the surface layer of the alloy. Tribological processes are localized within this layer. Chemical polishing contributes to the removal of the defect layer and a significant increase in the surface resistance to deformation. During friction, an adhesive wear mechanism is implemented. The friction coefficient oscillation increases in 5–6 times.
