Abstract
The zone of contact interaction of the tool with the workpiece during deforming broaching of parts with a finite wall thickness was investigated experimentally. Contrary to the previously proposed contact interaction schemes, the zone of local plastic deformation in this case corresponds to the scheme for processing parts with an infinite wall thickness. It follows that the regularities of the mechanics of the formation of the hardened surface layer of parts with an infinite wall thickness can be used as the basis for the method of calculating the depth and hardness of the strain-hardened layer when processing parts with a finite wall thickness. The developed method takes into account the influence of contact pressures, roughness of the machined surface and the magnitude of the tension. Comparison of the results obtained by calculation using the developed method with experimental data showed their good correspondence.
